Oak Shaker 4L - Frosted Prefinished Internal Doors

Finishing an unfinished internal door allows you to add your own personal touch to your living space, enabling the door to fit seamlessly into your home’s decor.

• Preparation: Start by sanding the door. You should use a fine-grit sandpaper (120 or 150 grit) to ensure the surface is smooth and ready for finishing. Remember to always sand in the direction of the wood grain to avoid scratches. Once sanded, remove all dust with a vacuum or a damp cloth.
• Apply a Wood Conditioner (Optional): Depending on the type of wood your door is made of, you may want to apply a wood conditioner before staining. This is especially important for woods like pine that can absorb stains unevenly. The conditioner will help to ensure a more uniform finish.
• Staining: If you choose to stain your door, use a high-quality brush or cloth to apply a wood stain in your chosen colour. Always apply the stain in the direction of the grain, and make sure to wipe off any excess stain with a clean cloth. Allow the stain to dry completely, which could take anywhere from a few hours to a full day depending on the specific product and environmental conditions.
• Applying a Clear Finish: Once the stain (if used) is completely dry, you can apply a clear finish to protect the door and enhance its appearance. You can use a polyurethane finish for durability. Apply it using a good quality brush, again in the direction of the grain. Allow it to dry, and then lightly sand the door with a fine-grit sandpaper. Wipe off the dust, then apply a second coat.
• Re-Sanding: After the first coat of clear finish has dried, lightly sand the surface again with fine-grit sandpaper. This helps to ensure a smooth final finish.
• Final Coat: Apply a final coat of your chosen finish. Once this is dry, your door is ready to be hung.

Remember, each product (stain, paint, or finish) may have specific instructions, so it's important to read and follow those for the best results. Also, ensure that you work in a well-ventilated area and protect surrounding areas from spills or drips. Always test a small area or a scrap piece of the same wood before applying a finish to the entire door.
